Ndere Cultural Center is a home to the vibrant Ndere Troupe, one of Uganda’s famous cultural dance groups. The center is a hub for Uganda’s cultural heritage, expressed through music, dance and drama from all regions of Uganda. Ndere promotes the preservation and appreciation of Ugandan culture. Brief History:
The Ndere Troupe was founded by Dr. Stephen Rwangyezi in 1984 and later, the Ndere Cultural center as a home to the vibrant dance group. The Ndere Troupe is among the 1600 Uganda development theatre association (UDTA) groups entertaining and educating people through music, dance and drama. The word, “Ndere” means Flute, an iconic sound instrument.
What to expect at Ndere Cultural Center:
Ndere Cultural Center has weekly cultural performances on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays: Sherehe Show, Ndere Fridays and Katika Sundays respectively. These performances run from 7:00pm to 10:00pm for Wednesdays and Fridays. For Sunday, you’ll enjoy family time from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. You’ll enjoy a sumptuous cuisine of Ugandan local food and different performances. Some of the performances include Amagunju, Bakisimba, Tamena, Olunyege, Ekitagururo, Ekalu, Adungu, Larakaraka, Amatimbo and so much more.
The Center has serene environment, suitable for calm evenings and relaxation. It sits on 9 acres of land with well-maintained flora. The architecture is interesting too! Indigenous but with a modern look.
The on-site restaurant offers a wide variety of Ugandan local foods. You’ll enjoy a sumptuous cuisine of carefully selected dining options.
