Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival & Transfer to Lake Mburo National Park

Upon arrival, your safari guide will warmly welcome you. Following your meeting, you will immediately drive to Lake Mburo National Park.

Wildlife and Landscapes

Lake Mburo stands out from other parks in East Africa because its landscape is dominated by acacia forests. This makes it the absolute best place to spot the massive eland antelope. Furthermore, the park is home to approximately 68 different kinds of mammals, including zebras, impalas, buffalo, and predators like leopards, hyenas, and jackals.

Afternoon Boat Cruise

The lake itself hosts hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of water birds. Meanwhile, the papyrus swamps provide a habitat for the rare Sitatunga antelope and the colorful papyrus Gonolek. Later in the afternoon, you will take a boat trip across Lake Mburo, actively keeping an eye out for diverse bird species both on and around the water.

Finally, you will enjoy a delicious dinner and an overnight stay at your selected lodge.

Day 2: Morning game drive & transfer to Bwindi National Park

Start your day with a delicious breakfast at the lodge. Following this, you will head out for a final morning game drive in Lake Mburo National Park. Actively search for various plains game, including zebras, giraffes, impalas, the rare Sitatunga, waterbucks, buffaloes, and reedbucks.

Journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After the game drive, you will embark on the scenic journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. This park is renowned for its incredible biodiversity, and crucially, it protects approximately half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas.

Midway through the drive, you will make a stop for lunch. Then, you will proceed with the journey, reaching the park and checking into your lodge late in the evening. Finally, you will enjoy dinner and an overnight stay, preparing for the next day’s trekking adventure.

Day 3: Ultimate Gorilla trekking in Bwindi

Start your day with an early breakfast. Crucially, pack your lunch before leaving the lodge, then drive to the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park headquarters.

Briefing and Trekking Groups

First, the park’s head ranger will provide a detailed briefing on trekking etiquette and safety. Afterward, rangers will divide all trekkers into small groups of eight people, with each group assigned to one of the park’s 15 habituated gorilla families.

The actual gorilla trekking adventure begins as you hike deep into the dense Bwindi Forest. Once you locate your assigned family, you will spend an unforgettable, magical hour observing the mountain gorillas in their natural habitat.

Return and Relaxation

Following the encounter, you will take a break to enjoy your packed lunch inside the forest. Then, you will hike back to the starting point where your guide will be waiting for you. Finally, you will drive back to your lodge for a well-deserved dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Departure

Start your final morning at a relaxed pace, enjoying breakfast at your lodge. Afterward, pack your bags and check out to begin your scenic drive back to Kampala.

Finally, your dedicated guide will drop you off at your preferred location. You can choose to be transferred to a Kampala hotel or driven directly to Entebbe International Airport (EBB) with enough time to comfortably check in and board your flight home, concluding your memorable Bwindi and Lake Mburo safari.
