A light lunch will be served en route, ensuring you arrive refreshed and ready for adventure. Your first highlight is the breathtaking Fatnas Lake, a small island easily accessible by foot or bicycle from Birket Siwa. Here, you’ll experience a spectacular sunset, watching the sky ignite behind the dramatic backdrop of Gebel Bayda and Hamra to the west. Before dinner, take a relaxing walk through the island’s garden, observing the diverse flora, including banana, date, and olive trees. Later, savor a delicious dinner at a local restaurant in Siwa.
Following your meal, you will enjoy a truly unique overnight stay at Ghaliet, an exceptional SPA Ecolodge. Guests enjoy the lodge’s organic design, delicious organic food, and various health programs. Choose your perfect retreat: upper rooms feature a transparent glass ceiling, offering a magical experience as you “sleep in heaven,” while the lower rooms provide unique outdoor privacy with their own private backyards. Get ready to have an amazing night in Siwa.
Day 4: Siwa Oasis
Following a nourishing breakfast, your immersive day begins with a 7:00 am pickup. We immediately head to the Alexander the Great Temple, famously known as the Temple of the Oracle. According to historical accounts, Alexander the Great traveled through the desert specifically to consult the Siwan oracle here, seeking divine affirmation that he was the son of Zeus.
The Healing Power of Siwa’s Salty Lakes
Next, we drive to the extraordinary Salty Lakes. These lakes possess hyper-salinity, mirroring the unique properties of the Dead Sea, allowing you to float effortlessly—no swimming skills required! However, use caution and protect your eyes, as the highly concentrated salt water can cause severe discomfort. Therefore, look for the clearest, purest crystal lake where you can see the bottom. Crucially, bring a bottle of mineral water to rinse off after your therapeutic swim, as these lakes are known for their strong healing properties, far exceeding those of regular seawater.
Around 11:00 am, our historical tour continues to Cleopatra’s Bath (The Spring of the Sun). This beautiful spring has long been a landmark for travelers, and local legend claims that Queen Cleopatra herself bathed in its waters. Afterward, we proceed to the Temple of Umm Ubaydah, or Amun Temple, located just 200 meters from the Oracle Temple. While erected by Pharaoh Nectanebo of the 30th Dynasty, sadly, the structure is almost entirely ruined, having been dynamited in 1896. Today, only an inscribed wall remains, yet earlier drawings confirm its importance and structure.
Siwan Cuisine and Great Sand Sea Adventure
At 12:00 pm, we pause to taste authentic Siwan lunch at a local favorite, Abdo restaurant.
Then, the afternoon transforms into an action-packed desert adventure! We discover the vast Great Sand Sea via an exciting 4×4 Jeep safari. Here, you will experience sandboarding on Egypt’s premier dunes, located right near the Siwa Oasis.
Later, we visit the therapeutic Bir Waheed, which features both a hot and a cold spring. Finally, as the sun begins to set over the majestic desert landscape, we gather to enjoy traditional Bedouin Tea, concluding a truly unforgettable day before spending the night in Siwa.
Day 5: Siwa Oasis
Your final morning in Siwa begins with an early breakfast at the camp at 7:00 am, before we drive back into the Siwa Oasis center to explore its concluding treasures.
The Historic Shali Fortress
First, we visit the iconic Shali Fortress . Constructed in the 13th century, this immense, protective mud-brick maze served as the heart of Siwan life for nearly 800 years. The fortress was ingeniously built using large chunks of local salt to reinforce its walls. Historically, inhabitants lived closely within the narrow quarters, even bringing their animals inside the single-gated walls each evening for protection. Although resilient against human invaders, unfortunately, rain has caused significant damage over time. However, the fortress’s mosque remains in active use today, and several homes within the complex have been beautifully restored, with some even transitioning into local guesthouses.
Exploring the Mountain of the Dead
Next, we proceed to the Mountain of the Dead (Gebel Al-Mawta). A distinctive conical hill located just over a kilometer north of Shali. This site holds significant archaeological value, featuring numerous tombs carved into the mountainside from the Twenty-Sixth Dynasty, Ptolemaic, and Roman periods. Specifically, four tombs are highly recommended for viewing, with the Tomb of Si Amun being the most remarkable in the entire oasis. Si Amun was likely a wealthy Egyptian, possibly of Greek descent, who adhered to ancient Egyptian beliefs. His tomb preserves magnificent images from the Egyptian pantheon, including a breathtaking painting of the goddess Nut standing beside a sycamore tree.
Finally, we begin the drive back to Cairo. Lunch will be served on the way, concluding your unforgettable Siwa Oasis adventure.
Day 6: Arrival In Hurghada
Finally, after your desert adventures, Day 6 brings your journey to the vibrant Red Sea resort town. You will arrive in Hurghada, marking the beginning of the next phase of your trip. Upon arrival, we ensure a seamless transfer to your accommodation. Get ready to trade the sands of the oasis for the beautiful beaches and crystal-clear waters of the Red Sea, where relaxation and new activities await.
Day 7: Underwater Wonders and Island Escape
We dedicated Day 7 to exploring the magnificent Red Sea marine life. Therefore, we embarked on a boat trip to one of the famous islands, like Giftun Island or Mahmya/Orange Bay, renowned for its pristine white sands and turquoise lagoons. Here, you will actively snorkel or dive among vibrant coral reefs. Encountering a dazzling array of tropical fish, an experience that truly defines the Red Sea. Furthermore, for beginners, an introductory scuba dive provides an unforgettable first look at this spectacular underwater world. Later, we enjoyed a delicious lunch on the boat and spent the afternoon soaking up the sun and relaxation on the idyllic beaches before returning to the mainland.
Day 8: Desert Safari and Local Culture
Next, Day 8 offered a change of scenery as we ventured out of the resort area. Consequently, we chose a thrilling Desert Safari experience. We navigate the golden dunes via 4×4 Jeep or Quad Bike, feeling the adrenaline rush of riding across the vast Hurghada desert landscape. This adventure typically includes a visit to a traditional Bedouin village. There you can learn about their customs and savor authentic Bedouin tea. Finally, we captured the magical desert sunset before enjoying a traditional barbecue dinner beneath the clear, starry sky.
Day 9: Marina Stroll and Relaxation
Finally, we took a slightly more relaxed approach on Day 9. In the morning, we explore the modern Hurghada Marina. Take a leisurely stroll, admiring the luxury yachts, and enjoying a coffee with a sea view. Alternatively, you could visit the Hurghada Grand Aquarium to see marine life from the comfort of land. Or wander through the older El Dahar district to experience the authentic local souks (markets). Ultimately, we spent the late afternoon and evening relaxing. Perhaps indulging in a Hammam spa treatment or enjoying a final, fresh seafood dinner at a local restaurant. Perfectly concluding the Red Sea portion of the journey.
Day 10: Departure, pick up from your hotel after breakfast, then transfer to the Airport
