Day 1: Transfer from Kigali To Bukavu

En route, you will undoubtedly enjoy the panoramic, rolling hills of Rwanda. Subsequently, upon arrival in Bukavu, the main tourist city in the DRC, you will head directly to Kahuzi-Biega National Park. You will check into your lodge/hotel, have dinner, and stay overnight, preparing for your gorilla adventure.

Day 2: Low land gorilla trekking experience

Your most anticipated day begins with an early start! You will wake up, have breakfast, and, with your packed lunch ready, you’ll promptly head to the Kahuzi-Biega National Park headquarters for registration and briefing.

First, officials will register your group. Subsequently, expert guides will thoroughly brief you on the rules and regulations essential for tracking the Lowland Gorillas. At the headquarters, rangers will assign you a gorilla family. Then, you will actively trek deep into the lush forests, searching for the majestic Lowland Gorillas.

Once you locate them, you will spend a precious one hour in their presence, actively taking pictures and videos. Afterward, you will hike back to the park headquarters, where you will proudly be rewarded with gorilla trekking certificates.

Following the trek, you have several optional activities: you can visit the scenic Kibati Waterfalls, explore the Mbayo Tea Estate, or enjoy a community visit to Buhavu town. Finally, in the evening, you will return to your lodge, have dinner, and stay overnight.

Day 3: Transfer Back To Kigali

On the third and final day of your Congo safari, you will wake up for breakfast, check out of your lodge, and set off for Kigali, crossing back through the Cyangugu border.

Along the way, you will make a significant stop to actively explore the historic King’s Palace in Nyanza. Here, you will visit the tombs of the king and his wife, discovering a piece of Rwandan royalty. Furthermore, you will also visit the educational Butare Museum.

Finally, upon arrival in Kigali, your driver will efficiently drop you off at your designated hotel or at Kigali International Airport for your scheduled departure flight.
